Top Scoring, Medal Winning, Highly Acclaimed Wines Small wineries produce great wines, but unfortunately most consumers will never hear of them. This occurs because 1) distributors cannot be bothered dealing with wineries that produce just a few hundred or even a couple of thousand cases each year, and 2) major wine reviewers cannot evaluate and write about every wine produced. The net result is that consumers will never discover some truly outstanding wines!
All is not lost. Independent reviews and accolades exist for smaller and medium production wineries, they are just difficult to find. One way wineries try to distinguish their wines is by entering them in wine competitions. These results can offer valuable insight, as judging panels taste wines blind and award medals only to deserving wines. It is important to note that at major competitions, gold medals are awarded to only about 10% of the wines entered, while silver medals go to roughly 20%. Finally, wines are evaluated by wine critics who have not necessarily gained celebrity status, but who are expert in their abilities. Their views are again very valuable, but are not necessarily seen by a wide array of consumers.
Our goal is to
centralize this valuable information and present just those wines that have set themselves apart from the tens
of thousands that are produced each year. Assembled here are both large and small production wines that have been independently evaluated and received a critic's score, a medal in a wine competition, or received accolades in either a newspaper, magazine or web based publication. We hope that you find this
information to be helpful, and that it allows you to buy the best wines
within your budget.
